Barcode scanners are one of the newer developments in PDA accessories, but they are plentiful. PDA barcode scanners are generally being used for warehouses taking inventory. By purchasing the barcode scanner as an accessory to the PDAs they already have, it is more cost efficient than buying barcode scanners themselves, unless, of course, you have to buy the PDAs to make the barcode scanner accessories work.
Because PDA barcode scanners are relatively new, it may be difficult to find a cheap barcode scanner, and while it is possible to find a discount barcode scanner, it may still cost you quite a bit. This shouldn’t deter you, though, since barcode scanners are extremely useful when doing inventories of very large warehouses. The less time you spend doing inventory, the more time you can spend doing more productive things, and thus bringing in more money. The PDA barcode solution may be out of reach for a little while unless your budget can cover the cost, but PDA barcode scanners by Treo offer you several options. If you are already in possession of PDAs, then you can just buy the attachments and software to make them into barcode scanners. On the other hand, if you do not have a PDA, and you intend to buy one for the purpose of barcode scanning, it is a good idea to look into integrated barcode scanner/PDA devices. These may be more costly at first glance, but they get the job done very well, without having all of that money going into buying a PDA that isn’t suited for barcode scanning all of the time. Your barcode scanner may be the next step to increased efficiency in the office, but you’ll have to do some shopping before you jump on the cheapest one to find. Another thing to keep in mind is that even though there are many different barcode scanners on the market, some of the lesser known PDA manufacturers still may not have a scanner that is compatible to them. This can be a bit of a setback in trying to speed up the inventory process, but the good news is that there are tons of barcode scanners currently being developed for the smaller manufacturers so there’s a good chance that your barcode scanner is within a couple years of release. The cost of barcode scanners is dropping slowly as they become more prevalent, but they still remain far more expensive than other PDA accessories, so unless your budget can handle a hefty purchase, you may have to wait a little while.
